Re: pygmalion lyrics

Good to see a discussion of this album. I can see why it doesn't appeal to some people, what with most of it being minimal and quite repetitive (not to mention a bit weird in places), but it's truly unlike anything I've heard and I love it. It's a darker, more sparse sounding Slowdive, and I'll probably never decipher some of the lyrics, but I'll post whatever I do figure out.

Re: pygmalion lyrics

i think pygmalion was meant to be different and ahead of its time and it is possible Creation  did not like it but that Neil went ahead with it all the same as he believes in his music.   I don't know but what a great record

Re: pygmalion lyrics

Souvlaki for me, a classic album on any level, made by a band as opposed to an individual...Pygmalion - the sound of someone taking the (a?) piss:) !

the early 12" with Slowdive/Avalyn I and II is pretty awesome too...

I was obsessed with Slowdive at University 1992-1995. In the (pretty damn-miserable) build-up to Pygmalion being released, a UK music programme played a 10-second snatch of 'Blue Skied 'an Clear' at 2am. The band were standing on a stage in a studio playing the song (no, I don't know where this clip is from either). I'd never heard anything this beautiful...

Hey Mark, this is interested what you said. I don't know if I understood you clearly, but, are you saying the band played this song in a studio radio? If this is correct, when this session took place and in which radio? I wasn't ware songs of Pygmalion were played live.

Someone told me once (I don't remember who and when) that there was supossed to be a Pygmalion tour but it never took place because the band was fired from Creation, etc. Does anyone knows wether this is true or not?

...well there was definitely due to be a tour cos I had the advert from the NME that showed Slowdive would be supporting the 'Cranes'.
I was like a cat on hot bricks, I rang up the venue from work only to be told Slowdive had just split up. This was between February & April '95. I even remember having to go for a walk around the block to get my head straight.

Do you have for any chance the NME advert that showed Slowdive was going to support Cranes?

I think it was for the Garage in Islington though.
I remember the woman on the phone saying that Slowdive had just split that week.

Re: pygmalion lyrics

thank you.

even if Slowdive split up, I guess Cranes went on tour anyway? I am checking the dates they gave during 1995 and I don't see any in the UK. Strange thought

I'll try to contact NME to see if they can give me any info about this.

Thanks again!

Re: pygmalion lyrics

The last Slowdive show was 21-May-1994 in Toronto. Maybe they planned some more shows for Pygmalion, but none of them actually happened. The last time Slowdive played the Garage in London was 10-Dec-93 (this show was recorded, by the way, but it's one of the rarest recordings out there). Maybe this is what you were thinking about.

I recently shared the Garage gig you're talking about in Dimeadozen. This is a unique show as they played "In Mind" and "Good day sunshine". Show can be downloaded from here:

I'm aware the last show was in Toronto in 1994 as is documented in the database

http://slowdivedatabase.com/index.php/S … 521Toronto

However, I'd really like to know if there were confirmed dates for a "Pygmalion Tour" even if these shows were cancelled finally.

This entirely passed me by until now....(thanks dsanchez et al for picking it up!). I'm surprised nobody else has mentioned this. So was this, like, early 1995? BBC? C4? Was it the whole band, including Chris & Nick? Have you got any info on this, lets-go-away?

Re: pygmalion lyrics

I heard All of us song lots of time but I didn't realize the lyrics at all. After reading its lyrics I am felling its theme.
