Topic: pygmalion lyrics

hi. does anyone know any of the lyrics to some of the songs on pygmalion? particularly "Rutti," blue skie'd and clear," and "all of us."
thanks.

Re: pygmalion lyrics

Here's the lyrics for "all of us":

this whole life
is all of us
this whole dream
is all of me

minnow lies
inside me now
no one here
is sure

he is all of us
he is all of us
he is all of us
he is all of us

he looks centuries older
he's of centuries gone
recognise i need her
i can hold you close

he is all of us
he is all of us
he is all of us
he is all of us

------------------
I know bits and pieces of "rutti" and "blue skied" but not all of them. I'd really like to know what the heck Neil and Rachel are chanting in "j's heaven" the most though!!! I've been listening to "pygmalion" for over 7 years now and I still have no idea. 'Tis a mystery.

cheers.

Re: pygmalion lyrics

I too, have been fascinated/confused by the lyrics, but I've managed to come up with a few gems in critical listenings....
Rutti: "Go kill the buffalo...don't bother me"
J's Heaven...sounds like they're saying "Isn't life small?  Isn't life (?) ...small?
Blue Skied: "You say you love me...You know why...All the love...falling down...falling over, etc.  Chorus: You say love and it sounds so sweet...you say love and it sounds so good."

Re: pygmalion lyrics

I'm pretty sure it's not "go kill the buffalo, don't bother me" in 'rutti'. I believe it is "go kill the both of 'em, don't bother me". Makes more sense, don't you think? :-) Listen again and see if you can't hear it.

cheers.

Re: pygmalion lyrics

I always thought it was "You'll kill the both of us"

Re: pygmalion lyrics

This album sounded so different from the rest I never purchased it.
Is it good? I am a long time Slowdive fan since the tour with Catherine Wheel back in the day for the Chrome tour. Anyhow, it is so rare I've never heard it. I downloaded a song a long time ago and it didn't seem like much of anything except sound effects. Please give your opinions. Thanks!

Re: pygmalion lyrics

Here's a funny/mad/sad story.

I was obsessed with Slowdive at University 1992-1995. In the (pretty damn-miserable) build-up to Pygmalion being released, a UK music programme played a 10-second snatch of 'Blue Skied 'an Clear' at 2am. The band were standing on a stage in a studio playing the song (no, I don't know where this clip is from either). I'd never heard anything this beautiful...

When Pygmalion came out, I rushed to the best record shop in Birmingham (UK) and found that the release had been put back a week...

It was (literally) the worst moment of my life.

On the way home I stopped off at Sainsbury's supermarket and bought 64 cans of beer for the price of 32. I struggled to carry these bloody things home. And then me and my house mates (some of whom also liked Slowdive) drank away our depression...

When the album came out the following week, I found it's loose structure strange. It's a grower. It doesn't hit you, like 'Just for a Day' or 'Souvlaki'. Certain tracks, like 'Rutti' and 'Crazy for Loving You', are amongst Slowdive's finest moments.

But I recognised and loved 'Blue Skied 'an Clear' instantly. And it remains one of the most glorious tracks, by any band, of all time.

Stay happy,
Mark

Re: pygmalion lyrics

well in my opinion I can't say which Slowdive album is best..But I sure know that they're all great!

Just For A Day: probably the most dramatic one. And being an old Cure fan this goes straight to the heart!

Souvlaki: a bit "easier" but still a great album. First one I ever bought and it really changed a lot for me

Pygmalion: Felt strange in the beginning. It is grower. In some ways the weakest and other ways the best. It sure is timeless - a song like "Crazy For You" has been a great inspiration to my work....

Re: pygmalion lyrics

i am not a music critic, but i will play one in here.  i think just for a day is a pretty bad cd. and i am a HUGE mark for slowdive. i dunno; it just doesnt strike any chord in me.  in fact, i make about zero attempt to listen to it.  souvlaki has not left the cd player in quite a long time..and when i aint listening to that, i have the demos and pyg on the puter....red 5 is just a great goddamn song!!

Re: pygmalion lyrics

:? I don't know about that... I think just for a day is one of the best albums slowdive made!
"sanish air", "waves", "brighter"... all amazing songs!
the ambience and emotion of this album also reminds me alot of the cure, and yet it stands compltely on it's own!

I listen to this album much more than souvlaki... and about equally as much as I do "out of tune".

NO WAY IS IT A BAD ALBUM   it's 9.9 in my opinion! big_smile

Re: pygmalion lyrics

tongue  you're right!!

...and "Celia's Dream" & "Catch The Breeze" ....WOOOOOW

the real great thing about Slowdive is that all their albums are great and that they seem different. They have qualities in their own unique ways...

i also thought that about Mojave3 until they release Excuses...it's decent record but it just doesn't seem necessary....

Re: pygmalion lyrics

for some reason, i just can get into it like i do souvlaki, or even pygmalion.  those 2 cds get me all weepy and stuff.  jfad doest have that quality to it. id have to throw ask me tomorrow into that weepy stuff too..... i get into that real slow, foot dragging, stand there and stare type of music and souvlaki has that in abundance..even though we arent supposed to be listening to the demos, i have been playing them over and over. i find those alleged pices of crap to be better than jfad. sorry big_smile

btw, does anyone have clear copies of any of those demos? not like the ones found on kazaa..oops!

Re: pygmalion lyrics

Oh come on!

'Just for a Day' is amazing. With hindsight, the production quality is a lot poorer that Souvlaki and all off Slowdive's early EPs.

But it's almost faultless song-wise. Anyone that doesn't get goose bumps throughout their soul when they listen to the last three minutes of 'Primal' is mad  smile

And the chorus of 'Waves'...  Oh, yes!!

I can still remember the first time I heard this album. I played it straight through and realised I'd heard a life-changing sound.

And it's still the greatest. 'Just for a Day' rules!

Stay happy,
Mark

Re: pygmalion lyrics

Hey I'm from cleveland! I live in Japan now though.
Did you see M3 in Cleveland at the Odeon on May 6, 1996 (on the "shaving the pavement" tour)? I went (I was only 16 at the time!), and took some (rather crap) B&W pics which you can see here:

http://www.geocities.com/j_kupchik/mojave3/index.html

Slowdive came to Cleveland ONCE, on May 6th 1992 at the Empire Club (which sadly no longer exists), opening for Ride--strangely enough EXACTLY 4 years earlier than their Mojave 3 appearance in Cleveland!! 8O  Perhaps we'll see M3 come to Cleveland on some future May 6th. haha.

Neil came to Cleveland solo at the Beachland Tavern last July. Did you go to that? I went, it was a great show.

As for JFAD, I think it's an excellent album, but I love all of Slowdive's stuff (pygmalion will always be my alltime fave though). The only band to have never released a bad or even average song...

Re: pygmalion lyrics

the empire? i saw xymox there. back then , i didnt keep up with the goings on of the band. and i am a huge spaz for their stuff (and no, i dont know all their names, or what their favorite color is either). i did miss neil in akron, but damnit!! i wont miss it again!! like i said, i dont ruin my hearing for just anything big_smile

Re: pygmalion lyrics

A side note

I heard a couple more tunes of Pygmalion, and I stick to my original idea that it is scrap. As in, belongs on the heap.

And I heard that "Excuses for Travellers" again. Didn't like when I heard it first. Now, its a bit better. Does this album want to make you go hang yourself, though? Jesus Christ Neil, if that album was any more depressing it'd be "Leaving Las Vegas."

Rachel Goswells new song sounds like Slowdive. The one on the front page of the downloads, I mean. Good stuff. Why  don't you just do Slowdive again? Your album would sell better!

Say, whats the little number below my name? Is that supposed to be the size of my cack? (And it grows with more posts!?!)

And what the f-? You guys gave me the worst password, I can't remember and I always have to go back to my mailbox to fetch it! And why in the hell do we have to type in that friggin number to log in? High security for Mojave 3? You guys need to make it easier to log in!

Oh, I'm sorry. Am I bitching? :?:

Re: pygmalion lyrics

lol I got a nice laugh out of that last post JohnJ... not sure if I'd agree about your stance on pygmalion, I personally think there's some pretty great songs on the album...

but I think I'd have to agree with you on your coment about "Excuses...".
I can handle listening to the album just about halfway into my life in art, before I have to take it out of the CD player because I'm feeling overwhelmingly down! I don't know if it's the only reason I don't like the album... but it definitely doesn't help, that's for sure!

Hey and if that number indicates what you think it does... I guess I should start getting ready for a life in porn! wink

A side note

lol.... ok here goes:

"Rachel Goswells new song sounds like Slowdive. The one on the front page of the downloads, I mean. Good stuff."

It's not new, it's from the Zephers album. Check it out its brillant!

"Say, whats the little number below my name? Is that supposed to be the size of my cack? (And it grows with more posts!?!)"

The more you post, the larger it gets. Keep going - you'll get a 12" next  smile

"And what the f-? You guys gave me the worst password, I can't remember and I always have to go back to my mailbox to fetch it! And why in the hell do we have to type in that friggin number to log in? High security for Mojave 3? You guys need to make it easier to log in!"

I know I know it sucks. I might get around to fixing it/making it much easier one day. But don't count on it. Life's too short.  lol   If you use a decent browser, once logged in, you should stay logged in when you come back. But... well... doesn't always work

Re: pygmalion lyrics

not to get too off topic from the original post...
Souvlaki and jfad are great records in their own right in my opinion, but it was pygmalion that really grew on me - there is so much space on it, so much  to the nuances and subtleties, it's a far more mature album than either souvlaki or jfad.  don't get me wrong, I like all three but I think slowdive was pretty much at the peak of their powers with pygmalion - pushing into new ground that maybe caused a lot of longtime fans to turn away from them, I think pygmalion is still relevent some 8 years after the fact.  It doesn't sound as dated now as jfad or souvlaki, and in my experience continues to astound people who are only now being introduced to it.  Pygmalion has definitely been one of if not the single most influential album in shaping my musical tastes.  But I digress...

I would love to know the lyrics to Rutti...this has been a long-standing question in my circle of friends, and I'm glad we're not the only ones dying to know.  Perhaps Neil would oblige us all at some point and reveal them?  Considering that the lyrics to M3 songs are now published in the liner notes...

Re: pygmalion lyrics

errrrrr... sorry, but does anyone know the lyrics of miranda? the AMAZING reverbs makes it hard to understand... but it is AMAZING anyway!!!  wink

Re: pygmalion lyrics

lyrics... i dunno, and i dont think it matters too much. the sounds are beautiful, and that was enough of the point for me.

the notion that slowdive or mojave 3 or neil or rachel have ever done any work released that is sub-par is absolutely unfounded in reality.  they boast an impeccable track record of releases and collaborations (except for the song which neil wrote with bernard butler... that was just good).

but all in all, i have nothing but thank you's for the both of them. their music has been a constant in my life for near on ten years, and it is not leaving.

Re: pygmalion lyrics

well, speaking for the hearing challenged...i have zero clue as to the pyg lyrics..it all sounds garbled to me..so if someone feels like sending me them...id be a happy man!

nothing says " pleasantly eccentric" like blasting red five on the car stereo!!!

Re: pygmalion lyrics

Hello all...

I, like Muser, am looking for the lyrics to "Miranda."

I've just recently discovered Slowdive and my name happens to be Miranda... So, therefor I am quite interested in this song. I've never heard it before either, so I really have absolutely no idea about this song. I'd really like to know though. If anyone could help that'd be great.

Thanks.

Re: pygmalion lyrics

we are still talking about pygmalion. i'm still obsessed with pygmalion, i mean it, obsessed. i am a 31 year old man with all the old guy stuff going on except i still lay on my floor and try to figure something else about 'rutti.' i have the same story i hear all y'all talking about, going to the store to get it and taking it home and getting real confused. and i kept coming back to it and it never did anything but get better. it is my single favorite album in the world. you can say something else sounds like slowdive or mojave 3 in general, but you can't say there is anything like pygmalion. one day i think it's genius and the next i think i'm just too stupid. and i wonder if neil meant for it to come off like it does, or did. or what his expectations for it were. did they know the contract with creation was dead at that point? did he mean for it to be great? sometimes i think it might have been some part accidental, like tripping on the chemical formula for God.

who said jfad was bad? or they couldn't get through excuses for travelers. if this is what you really think, you should know it is your personality or inability to connect that makes you feel that way. excuses is perfect.

here's the thing. when you listen, you get the idea neil means it. then you see him play the songs and you think "man, he's better than i thought." and you watch him and you can see it, he's singing the songs and he means them. if you can't connect with pygmalion, then i suppose you might possibly be normal. if you can't connect with excuses, maybe we should get you a copy of U2's last cd. i hear its good.
