“a welcome surprise … intimate, confessional lyrics and disarming melodic
twists” (Mojo)
“uplifting and organic, sunny folk pop … her languid delivery of lilting
melodies and sun-kissed vocals make for a hazy and sensual atmosphere”
(Time Out)
Rachel Goswell’s long-awaited debut album is released on Monday 14th June. Made
with co-writer Joe Light and producer David Naughton, “Waves Are Universal”
is an unexpected delight – recorded organically, Rachel’s voice is augmented
by the lightest of ambient touches, whether it comes swathed in the natural
reverb of Chislehurst Caves or surrounded by the gentle atmospheres of the various
field recordings that Rachel and David made whilst they were working on the
album. The record reveals serious songwriting skills that encompass the featherlight
ascent of “Plucked” as effortlessly as the dense, shimmering groove
of “Coastline”, and it triumphantly justifies the faith that so many
Slowdive and Mojave 3 fans have had in Rachel as a genuine talent in her own
right.
