tip of the day – Mark Van Hoen

Mark Van Hoen is
currently working with Mojave 3 on their new album (doing some production I
believe). I came across his website by mistake and recommend you check
it out.
As well as producing, he also has many albums released under his
project ‘Locust‘ –
you can listen to various MP3 samples via his site. The tracks I heard blew-me
away. Something else to add to my shopping list then :-)

Neil Halstead on Tour in October – cancelled

Here’s a quote from Neil’s Manager:

“Neil will not be playing the dates with Kathryn in October after all as he needs to spend the next few weeks finishing the new Mojave 3 album. 4AD rather foolishly jumped the gun and announced these dates without waiting for 100% confirmation from us.”

So, bad news for the UK fans, but good news that Neil is getting back to work on the Mojave album!

Blue Skied an Clear released

Sorry I’ve been slow in making updates and answering emails recently – been
busy y’know ;-)

I’ve added some photos to the gallery of Neil at Benicassim festival. Thanks
to Samuli for those!

In other news… the Morr Music compilation “Blue Skied an’ Clear” has
been released. This is a 2 CD package, with 1CD consisting of original new music
from the Morr Music artists, and more importantly…. 1CD of Slowdive covers.

If you’ve been living under a rock for a few years – Neil and Rachel were in
Slowdive prior to Mojave 3. They were part of the music scene named ‘shoegazing’
– got hyped by the NME and friends, then for the rest of their career got slagged
of a lot (from what I can remember).

Anyhow, go buy their first two albums –
Just
for a Day
and Souvlaki
– really, you’ll be thanking me afterwards! :-)

Sales pitch over… you can check out a BBC
review of BSAC here
. They also have some short Real Audio samples there.
You can buy the CD at www.darlashop.com,
as well as www.hausmusik.com who have a mp3
sample of lali_puna’s cover of 40 Days here!

New Dagger MP3 bootleg added to downloads section

Thanks again to Rachel for taking part in the webchat yesterday, I had lots of fun! – you can see the log posted in the forum if you were not there – shame on you! :-)

One topic raised was the story surrounding the bitter-sweet Slowdive song, which was performed by Mojave 3 on their last tour. Having forgotten about the song, I dug out a bootleg (thanks John for that!)… and found a Mojave version of it – and very nice it is too! You’ll find it under ‘Mojave 3 Bootlegs’ in the audio/video download section. Enjoy!

NOTE: if you have problems saving the file, use the ‘right-mouse-click, save target’ option..
